My name is Emily Collier and I am graduating from Mays Business School with an MBA in August of 2025. I have experience in the energy industry working for a downstream oil and gas company where I developed my passion for working with others to solve complex problems. I enjoy the constant challenge of a fast-paced work environment that helps my career development by boosting my technical and professional knowledge. I have gained hands on experiences in a refinery that range from process to financial analysis to project management. My adaptability has allowed me to make contributions such as saving $0.5M by calculating the financial benefit of a sulfur reduction additive in one of the major units at the refinery.
My knowledge was also seen in action when I identified key safety measures to benchmark fired heaters across all company plants and created a checklist to accomplish this. I managed a team of engineers to complete the benchmarking and improved the safety of everyday operations. This honed my soft skills in a professional environment by requiring constant collaboration. Managing others on this team clarified pursuing an MBA would be right for me in hopes to prepare me for other leadership roles in the future.
Looking ahead, my goal as an employee and contributor to Valero is to be a strategic and forward thinker to help find cost efficient solutions quickly. I am confident with my hardworking and communicative skillset that I will learn quickly to drive success. I hope to add business aspects to otherwise technical problems and add value by making an impact every day.
