Howdy! I’m Emily Wussow. After learning that a family friend was paralyzed after a fall and watching advances in medical technology allow him to lead a full life, I developed a passion for furthering the development of the medical field and biomechanical technologies. I was able to put this passion into practice during my internship at MD Anderson, where I identified unmet clinical needs on the OR floor during observations and developed biomechanical devices to meet those needs. My strong communication skills were also put into practice as I worked directly with surgeons and physicians to ensure these designs were usable, relevant, and grounded in real-world practices.

During my undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at Texas A&M, I was known for honoring my commitments and stepping in to help whenever others needed support. This was seen as I stepped into a co-author role for a paper on urinary diagnostics when the graduate student I was working with had to take leave with a deadline closing in. These strong time management skills also came into use during the summer after my Junior year, where I was interning at MD Anderson as well as helping to determine the feasibility of implementing a new joint recognition software into a clinical setting for lower limb replacement surgery assessments at UT Health. I was able to successfully develop 4 medium to high fidelity medical device prototypes at MD Anderson and complete over 75 assessments of the software in UT Health clinics that summer.

I also have experience managing large-scale logistics and budget management, as I planned and led a 5-day trip for 35 students to 2 major US cities with a budget of $40,000. These students developed professionally and personally through the various events with engineering companies, professional presentations, and workshops I planned. This opportunity allowed me to better understand the importance of leading with intention and humility.

The combination of these interests and skills leads me to where I am now, as an MBA candidate at Texas A&M, where I am developing a skillset that will allow me to drive innovation in the healthcare field and create a larger impact on those around me while taking into consideration the business analytics side of medical devices.

I hope to bring my skills and knowledge to your company, where we can continue turning clinical challenges into practical solutions that make life easier for medical professionals and safer for patients.
