Howdy, my name is Jake Sanders. As long as I can remember, I have had a passion for analyzing data and
using statistics to understand what makes something valuable. This passion started as early as elementary
school, when I would spend hours looking at stats on the back of my favorite players' baseball cards and using those numbers to see what made each player different and where their value lay. Over time, I developed my interests into a skill by taking classes in Python that taught me how to utilize machine learning methods with data to create models that could provide useful forecasts for the future. Additionally, I am a proud native Houstonian, so an interest in oil and gas came naturally. My interest in oil and gas, coupled with my passion for understanding data, and my education in Mechanical Engineering, led me to seek out internships in the commodities trading industry as a market analyst. In these roles, I was able to use my analytical skills, Excel, and Python to create various models to build out market views, forecast storage changes, and assist traders in their decision-making. I have created US supply and demand models for multiple products. These models required me to carefully select the most valuable inputs from large datasets and utilize Python techniques to come up with forecasting solutions that traders used to create their positions. Additionally, these experiences allowed me to utilize my skills in team communication as I encouraged my desk to provide their input to develop
a cohesive trading strategy and market outlook .
During my internships, I quickly learned that I wanted to take classes that taught me more about trading,
markets, options, and data analytics in business to reach my long-term goal of becoming a trader. This led me to join the Engineering MBA Program at Mays Business School, where I am currently developing these skills to pursue my goals.
As I look ahead to my career after my postgraduate studies, I am seeking out new roles in market analytics with a future goal of becoming a trader.
