Howdy! My name is Josue Fernandez Canela. I am a researcher turned data analyst with a passion for learning and problem-solving.
My foundation was built in the high-stakes, iterative world of computational biology. During my PhD at the University of Georgia, I navigated the complexities of large-scale genomic datasets. Analyzing millions of DNA sequences required more than just technical proficiency; it demanded a meticulous approach to data integrity, advanced statistical modeling, and the ability to manage multi-year projects. Beyond the computer, I led cross-functional efforts and mentored junior researchers, learning that even the most sophisticated model is only valuable if it can be communicated clearly to a diverse audience.
I eventually realized that my greatest professional satisfaction came from data analysis—the moment when noise becomes a pattern. This realization drove my transition into the field of analytics. Currently, as an MS in Analytics candidate at Texas A&M University, I am building a modern technical toolkit to deliver data-driven results for businesses.
I am currently consulting for a regional importer in Puerto Rico. In this role, I transform complex trade and customs data into a strategic asset. By identifying emerging supplier trends and analyzing global trade flows, I help the company navigate supply chain complexities and drive aggressive catalog diversification.
I thrive at the intersection of complex systems and business growth and am eager to help organizations leverage their data to make smarter, faster, and more resilient decisions.
