Howdy! My name is Kevin De Hoyos, and I am driven by my passion for sustainability, innovation, and continuous learning to work on meaningful contributions that will make an impact in my community and around the world. During my internship at Eastman Chemical Company, I was tasked with figuring out why a critical compressor kept shutting down as frequently as it was. I looked into the data from the previous decade, analyzed trends in impurity concentrations, and discovered a correlation that hadn’t previously been identified. I was able to recommend an alternative process that would not only cut down on downtime costs, but also repairment costs. This experience showed me how combining analytical thinking with practical application can create real impact.

Having completed my undergraduate degree in chemical engineering and with my experience at Eastman, I understand the importance of optimizing processes, especially related to energy utilization. With the ever-increasing demand for energy and the impact that climate change has had around the world, I want to achieve a process for manufacturing renewable energy and circular economies in an efficient and affordable way. To do this, I will not only use my passion for learning new technologies such as when I took on advanced circuitry to compete in the Chem-E Car competition,
but also my ability to arrange groups of people such as when I helped out my high school’s percussion learn how to blend their parts to fit into one cohesive sound, to help build or reinforce a community of people that will help me accomplish my goal.

My passion for sustainability goes beyond researching renewable energy and energy storage systems in my capstone project; it also includes exploring recyclable packaging for instrument equipment such as reeds, merging my love for music with my commitment to a circular economy. I am particularly driven by the opportunity to advance sustainable innovation across industries, whether through renewable energy systems, improving material efficiency, or fostering climate-conscious manufacturing. These areas represent the kind of global impact I strive to achieve: developing solutions that balance environmental responsibility with human needs.

As an MBA candidate, I am building leadership and strategic skills to complement my technical background. My goal is to lead teams that design and implement sustainable, efficient product improvement processes that not only drive innovation but also create meaningful benefits for both people and the planet.
