As a student in the inaugural EngineeringMBA class, I graduated from Texas A&M University with a B.S. degree in Industrial Distribution in May 2024 and transitioned straight into the MBA Program here at Mays Business School. Throughout my time in this engineering degree, I focused on business operations such as sales, logistics, and supply chain analytics. Throughout my coursework in classes such as manufacturing materials, mechanical and fluid power transmission, and quality and distributor analytics, my interest for a role in supply chain management was born. Throughout these classes, my major had significant focus towards communication skills and teamwork. These classes included semester long projects that allowed me to develop my teamwork abilities. I noticed that within these projects, I was able to gain the skill of harmony and leadership. I found personal gratification in leading my teams while also being someone to talk to about problems. I was able to push our team to the best of our ability while being able to problem solve issues and keep the team cohesive and efficient. I took these skills into my internships with Fuller Realty Partners, LLC., a full service industrial commercial real estate company.
I worked in two roles during my internships with Fuller Realty Partners, LLC.: Engineering Intern and Logistics and Operations Intern. I was able to grow my knowledge of both engineering and business as I worked in both departments during my undergraduate summers. During the former internship, I was able to work directly as a liaison between the engineering department and the management department. I worked in the mechanical side of the building management department. The work included communicating daily with clients throughout the buildings regarding technology and mechanical requests ranging from fixing air conditioning to printing key cards. I was able to gain a full understanding of the company-facing side of this business and all it took to keep clients satisfied regarding hospitality and satisfaction. In the latter internship, I was able to work directly with the management department. The responsibilities I had were financial analyst of monthly budget and sales representative for buyback. I analyzed the company budget regarding repairs, renovations, and utilities. The sales representative role allowed me to undertake projects such as replacing and updating building automation software in compliance with Class A building certification requirements. I was able to facilitate buyback deals of these automation parts to save money while also creating a more energy efficient environment that brought purpose to my goal of a sustainable future.
After these internships, I also became interested in energy production from lunch networking events with companies through my organization, Professional Association for Industrial Distribution (PAID). Partnering these two interests of sustainable energy production and supply chain logistics, I found that the Oil and Gas energy field was a perfect fit for my desire to tackle complex engineering solutions and my goal of managing energy supply. Having a technical role in engineering and logistics, Exxon Mobil will be a good role to begin my professional career in through a training development program. Exxon Mobil not only aligns with my work interests, but also with my personal goals such as sustainability and a people-first culture.
